The Ohio Housing Trust Fund provides vital state funding for housing and homelessness services. This can include support for:
*Home repair and accessibility programs
*Affordable housing development & repairs
*Supportive housing
*Homeless shelter operations
While housing is by far the most expensive item in most families’ budget, housing assistance programs receive less than one percent of Ohio’s total General Revenue Fund spending. Separate from the GRF, the Housing Trust Fund was created to respond to voters’ demand for state policymakers to address housing insecurity. It remains, by far, the largest source of state funding for homelessness and housing programs throughout Ohio.
*Supports children, seniors, veterans, Ohioans with disabilities, and domestic violence survivors in all 88 counties.
*Funds the development and preservation of affordable housing in rural, suburban, and urban communities.
*Boosts local economies and creates jobs across the state.
The Ohio Housing Trust Fund (OHTF) is the state’s primary source of funding for affordable housing and homelessness services. Created to expand housing opportunities and stability, the fund helps communities develop and preserve housing, prevent homelessness, and address local needs. Established with broad bipartisan support, the OHTF operates under state law and is administered by the Ohio Department of Development. Its reach spans all 88 counties, supporting both urban and rural initiatives that keep Ohioans safely housed.
The Ohio Housing Trust Fund provides vital support to older adults, families with children, people with disabilities, and survivors of domestic violence. It also serves low-income homeowners, those moving out of homelessness, and communities in rural or historically underserved areas.
